Wife of conductor killed by policeman seeks justice

Kafayat Adeoye, whose bus conductor-husband, Kazeem, was shot dead by a trigger-happy policeman on November 7, 2012, at Tipper Garage, Ketu, Lagos, over N50 change, has called on police authorities to ensure that justice is done.
Kazeem was shot dead by a policeman attached to the Mopol 50, Abuja, Corporal Oluwakiyesi Adegboyega,
Kafayat and her husband had a seven-year-old son.
PUNCH Metro tracked down Kazeem’s wife on Saturday; at the time of the incident, no one knew the deceased’s family.
Kafayat stated that she was more devastated because her husband was killed by a policeman who is paid to protect members of the public.
While Kazeem was struggling to make end meets in Lagos, his wife and son live in Osogbo, Osun State.
Kafayat said, “My husband has not seen his son in the last three years, not because he did not want to, but because it has been hard for me to bring him to Lagos.
“I was planning to bring my son to see his father soon. Kazeem sent money for his upkeep, asking each time when he would be able to see his son.”
The son would only have an opportunity to see his father’s corpse on Friday, when his remains will be buried at his hometown in Iragbiji, Osun State.
Like many innocent people, who had lost their lives as a result of police shootings in the past, the police authorities have neither explained what happened to Kazeem’s family nor apologise.
“I only heard from relations that he was killed by a policeman. Nobody has said anything; police authorities have not sent any message or requested our presence on the matter. My husband must not die in vain, justice must prevail,” Kafayat said.
The only sympathy the conductor’s wife got came from an association, in which her husband was a member – Bus Conductor Association of Nigeria- was N38,000 donation.
National President of BCAN, Mr. Adesola Israel, said Kazeem was a member of the Kosofe branch.
“The killing of Kazeem was barbaric. This association as a law-abiding group is calling on the Inspector- General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, to ensure justice is done. The man who murdered Kazeem who left behind a wife, child and aged parents must not go unpunished,” he said.
Kazeem was shot in the head at close range.
Eyewitnesses had said there was an altercation between Kazeem and Adegboyega, who brought out his service pistol and shot the conductor dead.
The incident led to a riot that was later quelled by policemen. Thinking that the policeman was attached to the Alapere Police Division, bus conductors and commercial bus drivers had attempted to set fire to a nearby police station.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ngozi Braide, said she had no information on Adegboyega asking that she should be given time to find out the level of the investigation carried out.
She had said after the incident in November that Adegboyega was in custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department. But since then, nothing has been heard on the trigger-happy policeman.

A 38-Year Old Indian Man Padlocks Wife’s Private For 4 Years Over Fear of Infidelity

man padlock wife private
A 38-year old Indian man identified as Sohanial Chouhan recently made a do it yourself chastity belt to prevent his wife from engaging in extramarital affairs.
We learnt Sohanial Chouhan’s brutality was exposed when his wife, Sitabai whom he married at age 16 was rushed to the hospital after attempting to commit suicide with rat poison.
While receiving treatment at the hospital to discharge the poison she took, nurses were amazed to find a padlock in her vagina.
According to Mrs. Sitabai Chouhan, who had been married to Chouhan for 19 years, in 2008, Chouhan drugged her and locked her in a room late at night and then proceeded to drill holes with a spiky instrument on either side of her genitals in order to fit a lock to stop her from having sex with other men while he is at work. Every morning before going to work, Chouhan allegedly inserts a small lock into the hole and keep the keys under his socks.
The Hospital immediately invited the police who tracked down Chouhan and unlock the padlock after retrieving the key from him.
Mrs. Chouhan claimed she had attempted suicide because her husband got her drunk and tried molesting their eldest daughter.
While his wife recuperates, Chouhan has been charged with cruelty and voluntarily causing grievous hurt. Police describe Chouhan as a mentally disturbed alcoholic.
Following his arrest, he tried justifying his actions, claiming that he became the custodian of his wife’s vagina because, several women in his family had “strayed” in the past and he did not want his wife to do the same.
The normal chastity belts are made of garments that can be locked to stop the wearer from having sex and not by literally puncturing holes in the genitals for padlocks. When locked, the belt fits very securely to the body, both at the waist and the crotch. The belt has a slit for urinating at the crotch and absolutely nothing, not even a finger can penetrate far enough for sexual pleasure. However, it cannot be worn for a long period due to hygiene complications.
According to popular myth, the chastity belt was used as an anti-temptation device during the Crusades. When the knight left for the Holy Lands on the Crusades fighting the pop’s war, his Lady would wear a chastity belt to preserve her faithfulness to him. However, there is no credible evidence that chastity belts existed before the 15th century and their main period of apparent use falls within the Renaissance rather than the Medieval times.
The first real chastity belts were created in the 1800s, with the sole aim of keeping boys and girls from masturbating and not for keeping women from straying.

Though the city is known for its architectural splendour and is home to many industries and contributes immensely to the fast growing rate of India’s economy, it is just like every other place in India which was recently classified by a survey carried out by TrustLaw, as the worst place to be a woman.
The girl child is still seen as inferior and of no financial value to the family. They are still being married off as young as ten, burned as a result of dowry-related disputes, and even sold off as property. Feel free to comment below

Woman Prays for a Miracle after giving Birth to a baby whose Brain is outside the Skull

baby-mantwa-mokoena
A South African baby boy, born on July 4, is not expected to survive. His anomaly? He was born with his brain exposed outside his head.

Mantwa Mokoena is praying for a miracle. Every day she is at her son’s hospital crib at the neo-natal unit of Kroonstad’s Boitumelo hospital in the Free State.
Every three hours for the past three weeks, she expresses milk into a cup to be fed to baby Sibusiso via a tube, even though every minute might be his last. Doctors say there is nothing they can do for him. His condition is officially “incompatible with life”.
Sibusiso was born on July 4 with anencephaly, a birth defect that results in a brain growing outside a head. According to his paediatrician, Dr Lizzy Tabane, the condition occurs early in the pregnancy at about four weeks after fertilisation, when the brain is still being formed. As the baby develops, the skull does not close properly and leaves a hole at the back of the child’s head.
Most of the brain grows outside the head and is covered by a very thin membrane. Infants with anencephaly usually have a brain stem, which controls reflexes like breathing, but they do not have a forebrain or cerebrum that controls thinking.
“The brain that was formed is abnormal. The brain consists of the cerebral hemispheres on the sides, the cerebellum at the back as well as the brain stem. He has no cerebrum or cerebral hemisphere, just brain tissue and a brain stem which is connected to the spinal cord and helps him to breathe. But unfortunately he won’t last long and there is nothing we can do about it. There is no quality of life without a brain. All that we can do is offer him palliative care as there is nothing curative about his case,” Tabane said.
baby born with brains outside of skull But despite being told that her first child might die at any time, Mokoena was praying for a miracle. While she understands the seriousness of her baby’s condition, she says she is “waiting for him to get better. I have hope that he will be fine.
“I am so scared of lifting him up in case I hurt him. That part at the back containing his brain is very soft, it’s like touching a plastic with water. So I’m scared I will tear it.”
Mokoena’s partner, Sandile Sithole, has refused to accept that there was nothing that could be done for his baby boy and was searching for assistance.
Mokoena said: “He is hurting. This is his first child and it is difficult for him to accept what happened.” Tabane said they had already counselled the couple and told them that they must “let nature take its course”.
In the meantime, she said, all they were doing was keeping the baby comfortable. In her 17 years of being a doctor, Tabane said, Sibusiso was the third case of anencephaly she had seen. The first child, she said, had died after a week and the second one after four weeks.According to the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, the prognosis for patients is death.

Husband and Wife Arrested for Kidnapping

KIDNAPPER IN Nigeria

MercyJohnson - A couple suspected to be serial kidnappers of international dimension has been nabbed by the men of Lagos State Police command. Mr. Nwangwu Emmanuel and his wife Beatricial Nwangwu were arrested recently by the operatives of the State Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS) after a long search.
The suspected evil couple according to police source, were arrested in Abuja where the husband was working as a driver to a retired military officer. Before their arrest, the couple had thrown several families into trauma, pains and tears by kidnapping their children and carried them across the border to Ghana where they demanded and received ransoms in millions of naira.
Before the police made what was been described as a major breakthrough in the quest to unravel the mystery behind several incidents of unreported cases of kidnapping in the state, the couple had earlier been declared wanted by the Interpol, Force CID, Abuja, Lagos State command, SARS, Zone 2 and Lagos.
Speaking on the arrest, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko who described the couple as notorious noted that most of their victims were children of the families where the wife had served as housemaid.
He explained that after kidnapping the children they would run to Ghana and start demanding for ransom running into several millions from their victims. “ They would tell the victims to pay ransom to a bank account in Ghana and they would later instruct them to collect their children at a particular hotel in Ghana.”
CP Manko said some policemen in Ghana were dismissed from their job because they collected some illegal money from the couple. The police in Ghana later declared the couple wanted for using their country as a country of collecting ransom from victims of the kidnappers. The police in Ghana was also said to have frozen the account of the suspects Manko added that it was a female DPO who got the number of the suspects and that it was after that, that he tasked the SARS to go to Abuja and arrest the suspects .
The husband told his story to Crimewatch “I am from Enugu State and I grew up in Ghana where I stayed for ten years. In 2008, I was employed by Mrs Folake Coker in Ikoyi Lagos and I was being paid the monthly salary of N25,000. One day I deceived one of the house maids to buy something for me pretending to be sick. Then I used the opportunity to kidnap the 2years old daughter of my boss. quickly took a cab to Mile 2 before taking a drop to Ghana.
“ I later called my boss and she recognized my voice. I demanded a ransom of N22million. The money was paid to my bank account in Ghana. I dropped the daughter in one hotel in Ghana and told them to pick her up there. I used the money to buy cars which I was selling in Ghana. Nwangwu explained that in 2009 his wife was employed as housemaid to Mr Alfred Edozie and that after just one month, the wife kidnapped one of her boss’s daughter. “My wife just called me one day that I should bring a taxi to the estate that she has kidnapped one of the daughters of her boss. Immediately we took the daughter and passed through Mile 2 and took a drop to Ghana. We called the family of the girls and we made a demand of N15million as ransom, but they paid N12M to my wife’s bank account in Ghana.
We didn’t know that the Interpol were already monitoring us. “When we went to withdraw the money the bank manager first paid her N6m and told her to come back the following day for the remaining ones. The Interpol officials from Ghana cornered my wife and told her that the Nigerian police would soon arrest her. My wife gave the police officer N6m and he took my wife to an hotel in Ghana and later told us to escape. The bank in Ghana closed our account ., That was how we lost the N12m in Ghana,” he said.
Nwangwu said when they moved back to Nigeria his wife delivered and he began to search for a job. “Later I got a job in Abuja as a driver to a retired military officer in 2012. After I and my wife moved to Abuja. One day I just saw policemen who came and arrested me in the presence of my boss.”
Also speaking, the second suspect, his wife said it was easy for her to kidnap because she pretended to be a housemaid and when she is employed after some days or weeks she will kidnap the kids of her employer.
CP Manko said the investigation is still ongoing in the matter and that when it is concluded they will be taken to court.

The police department in the town of Aurora, Colorado, where the shooting took place, said in a statement that there were “approximately 50 victims with at least 12 confirmed dead.”
Police had earlier put the toll in the shooting at the Century 16 Movie Theater, which was holding a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises,” at 14 dead with around 50 wounded.

Gay parade: U.S. military allows gay personnels to march in uniform

Vanguard - New York -The Department of Defence, in a first-of-its-kind move, will allow active duty members of all branches of the U.S. military to don their service uniforms while marching in an upcoming San Diego gay pride parade, event organisers said.
The move, confirmed in an internal defence memo, marks the first time the military has granted such blanket permission since the September repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’’ policy, under which gay individuals were allowed to serve in the military only if they did not divulge their sexual orientation.
“It is our understanding that event organizers plan to have a portion of the parade dedicated to military members,’’ Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for Community and Public Outreach Rene Bardorf wrote in an internal memo.
“We further understand organizers are encouraging service members to seek their commander’s approval to march in uniform and to display their pride,’’ Bardorf wrote.
Citing national media attention to the issue, Bardorf granted approval for service members to participate, but limited that approval in scope to the 2012 San Diego Pride Parade.
San Diego has a large military presence due to its naval base and the nearby Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
Nearly 400 military members have already signed up to march in the parade, according to organisers  Diego LGBT Pride.
Many more are expected to participate in the military parade after the announcement went public, Fernando Lopez, the director of public affairs for San Diego LGBT Pride, said.
More than 50,000 people are expected to attend the weekend festivities overall, organizers said.
“We are hopeful that those who have feared coming to share in the joy of Pride out of concern for losing their military careers will be able to finally celebrate their full and complete selves,’’ San Diego LGBT Pride said in a statement.
In the past, only armed services veterans, not those on active duty, were allowed to wear their uniforms at gay pride parades.
Commanders could give permission to individuals to take part in such events in uniform but no blanket permission had previously been issued, Lopez said.
The approval for active service members of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force to participate in the gay pride parade in uniform is the latest of a string of milestones following the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
The U.S. military celebrated gay pride month at the Pentagon for the first time last month, an event that other federal agencies like the CIA had been celebrating for years.
Under the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, more than 14,500 U.S. service members were thrown out of the military since the rule went into effect in 1993, according to the Service members Legal Defense Network.
Many senior members of the military had publicly warned against repealing the ban in wartime, saying it could hurt cohesion of troops or undermine morale. The Pentagon said in May that there had been no such impact.
The end of the policy has come at a time of steadily increasing public support for same-sex marriage.
The Gallup polling organization said in a recent survey that half of American adults are now in favour of gay marriage.
Also in May, President Barack Obama said he believes same-sex couples should be allowed to marry, and the nation’s largest civil rights group, the NAACP, later endorsed gay marriage, saying the fight for gay rights was a civil rights issue

Woman arraigned Over Scam In Delta

Charity Komuo and her company, Charity Luba Consultancy before Delta state High Court has arraigned been by The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,  EFCC sitting in Asaba for obtaining money by false pretence contrary to section 1 (3) and 8 (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offence Act.
She pleaded not guilty to the eight count charge when stated to her.
Then Counsel of Prosecution, Kayode Oni asked the court to fix a date for trial.
But counsel to the accused told the court that he has filed an application for bail and that he had served the prosecuting counsel.
However, Oni said he was served that morning in court and so he needed time to reply. Justice C O Ogisi ordered the accused person to be remanded in prison custody while adjourning to July 26, 2012 for hearing of the bail application.
Komuo’s arrest followed a petition from one Anthony Afisi that she defrauded them of $6,900 in pretence that she was going to help one Ufuoma Afisi secure admission into a University in the Ukraine , which she never done.
